The story that comes to life

The history of Ostrava is the story of an industrial metropolis. The city‘s early development was inextricably linked to the unprecedented expansion of heavy industry on its territory. For two long centuries Ostrava was primarily a city of coal, steelworks and steel. The Žofin Smelter, with its century-long operational history, was an important part of this history.

With the beginning of the new millennium, Ostrava began to write its new story. It was a time when heavy industry in the city was being downsized and restructured, and it began to change literally before our eyes. There is no similarly unique transformation of a city that is fundamentally changing its face in Central Europe. The area of former industrial sites is coming to life in new functions and becoming a natural urban space. Ostrava is gradually changing into a modern, dynamically developing regional metropolis with a new quality of life for its inhabitants. Ostrava has become a city of new opportunities and new stories.

Vision for the Pod Žofinkou development area

The most attractive development area in Ostrava with its enormous potential is also matched by an ambitious vision on the part of the city itself and the private landowners. It is a joint project based on a natural partnership of all stakeholders. The key value of the area for the development of the city is clear and unquestionable.

We are at the beginning of a new urban district in Ostrava that will offer a combination of housing, office space and services in a unique location. The new district will connect two key phenomena of Ostrava, its centre and the Lower Vítkovice area, mainly thanks to a new city boulevard with a tram line, which will be the backbone of the entire project. It will become the centre of the metropolis and an extremely attractive place to live. All this in the immediate vicinity of the river and its green corridor, within a 15-minute walk of everything important that urban life has to offer and within an hour's distance of two international airports. In just a few years, the vision will become a reality!

Be part of this exciting story!
